Smart alarm (haven’t tried it yet).
Adjustable font size.
Calendar app that shows all future events — unlike V3, which only shows today and tomorrow.

You can create fully custom workouts on VA6, which the V3 doesn’t support.
Course/Route Syncing
Ability to send training courses or routes directly to the watch.

…and I’m sure there’s more I’ll uncover over time.
One thing worth noting: although the watch has a UI that’s quite feature-rich and visually heavy, I initially expected it to lag. But after using it for a week, I haven’t experienced a single hiccup — it’s been smooth throughout.
The main reason I switched to Garmin is that Apple Watch—even the Ultra—doesn’t really provide actionable health insights.
What impressed me about Garmin is the level of actionable insights it offers without requiring a subscription. Some of the highlights:

Recovery insights
Custom workouts and Garmin Coach
…and probably more features I’ll discover as I continue using the VA6.
Most of the core health tracking features are similar to the Apple Watch, but Garmin seems to go a step further with its detailed insights. So overall, Garmin feels like a more complete fitness-focused smartwatch to me.

Pros:
• Refreshed menu design.
• Improved notification interface. Notifications are great now. Swipe access, dismiss all button, etc.
Cons:
• No vibration strength control. Low vibration, I keep missing notifications.
• No shortcuts on the left swipe on the default screen(used it on Vivoactive 5 for a wallet access) and the bottom button are unassigned.

While I do like the watch overall, there are issues I hope will be resolved with future software updates.
1) The Vivoactive 6 has a new ambient light sensor that brightens or dims the screen based on the room’s lighting. Currently there’s no way to customize the level of auto brightness or turn it off. I wish there was a way to do this.
2) The Vivoactive 5 had a settings option called “Activity Tracking” that let you set up and customize auto activity detection in case you started an exercise and forgot to preset it on the watch. This is completely gone on the Vivoactive 6. Why?
3) Garmin STILL doesn’t let iPhone users customize which apps show notifications on the watch. They claim it’s an Apple permissions restriction, but Fitbit, Coros, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Amazfit, etc. all have the ability to choose which apps send notifications to their watches. I cannot belive that Garmin is singled out as the sole company unable to accomplish this.
I do want to give a huge shout out to Garmin customer service. Although they couldn’t resolve these issues, I applaud how nice and knowledge the representative was.

Love my watch. Battery lasts a long time. I’ve been an Apple Watch girl for years but this gives way better data for overall health which is what I was looking for. I can’t figure out how to get text messages but I do get calls. 🤷🏻♀️ other than that love it. Won’t be going back to Apple anytime soon.

This watch is everything I was looking for and more. Garmin did the impossible and got me to take my Apple Watch off after years of being stuck in the Apple ecosystem. The amount of data and battery life on this watch is incredible. The new UI is 10/10 good job Garmin

As someone with a ~4yr old Garmin Instinct, this is a huge “upgrade”. I am keeping my Instinct for rugged outdoor activities, but the customizability, extra sensors, and light footprint is all very welcome when performing exercises and other activities. I briefly owner a Vivoactive 5, but returned it due to the missing altitude/barometric sensor. The 6 has definitely improved in software. I don’t understand the screen brightness complaints, it seems perfect. I’m very pleased overall.

This is my first Garmin coming from Fitbit and I have to say I’m pretty disappointed. This watch does not have an option to turn off/on the auto-brightness feature, making the screen extremely dark indoors and/or in low lighting. I thought there was maybe an issue with my watch, so I reached out to Garmin customer support and they said that feature isn’t available on this watch and that was “by design”, when I asked if there was a plan to fix it, they sent me a link to the Garmin Submit Ideas page.
There also is an issue with the battery, it has gone from 100% to dead overnight twice now, if this issue persists, I will be returning it. I’m not sure if I just got a dud, or if others are having similar issues. I bought mine through Garmin’s website, but as they don’t allow reviews, I’m reviewing here.
Other tracking features appear to be working great, and I think if these two huge issues were resolved, I would be really happy with this choice. If I jump ship on this one, I will be going with a Coros instead.

Based on what I’ve used before (I had a Apple Watch SE and also tried a Samsung Galaxy Watch), the Garmin vívoactive 6 is kinda in the middle for me. It’s not as flashy as Apple, but way more focused on fitness and health stuff. The battery lasts longer then both, especially the Apple Watch which I had to charge like every night. The AMOLED screen is really nice tho, looks almost as good as my old Samsung one. But Garmin menus are definetly not as smooth or simple as Apple’s system. Sometimes I get lost in all the options, feels like too many settings buried in weird places. One thing Garmin does better is the health tracking. The sleep tracking is actually useful, and the body battery thing is cool – even if I don’t totally get how it works lol. GPS also locks on pretty quick and is accurate on my runs. So if you’re more into sport and training, this is probly better than Apple or Samsung. But if you want more apps and smoother interface, those others might be more your thing. For me, I’m happy with it cause I care more about health data than texting from my wrist.
I’ve been using the Garmin vívoactive 6 for about 3 weeks now and gotta say, it’s pretty great. The AMOLED display is super crisp, colors pop out and it looks really nice on the wrist. Way better then my old Fitbit screen which was kinda dull.
The health features are cool too, I didn’t think I’d use stuff like stress tracking or the sleep score but now I’m kinda hooked on checking it everyday lol. Also the step counter seems accurate, at least more then the last watch I had which was always off.
One thing I don’t like is the menu system feels a little confusing at first. It took me a while to figure out where some of the settings were. Also the touchscreen is responsive but sometimes I accedently tap the wrong thing during workouts.
Battery life is decent – not sure about the “up to 11 days” claim though. I’m getting more like 6-7 with regular use and GPS on here and there. Still not bad, just not exactly what they say.
Overall, great smartwatch if your into fitness and want a nice looking display. Not perfect but I think it’s worth the price.
